Despite summer-like temperatures here at the Yarn Love Studio (Iowa, USA) earlier this fall, current temps are ranging between the low 20s and mid-40s. That’s definitely chilly. It’s time for sweaters and hand-knit socks! To keep those chilly breezes off me, I’ve currently cast on for a Uniform cardigan. As the name suggests, it’s about as basic as a cardigan gets and I’m loving it!
A few years ago, I had a very plain, store-bought cardigan that I wore all the time. It wasn’t particularly beautiful, well-made or luxurious. But it fit, was super-cozy, and coordinated with everything in my winter wardrobe. I wore it out and have been searching for a replacement since. Since I really don’t have the inclination to spend my time shopping, I decided to knit one. I mean what could be better than casting on a new sweater to love in a hand dyed yarn?
I’m using Amy March Dk in Storm…..so I can recreate the cardigan that goes with everything! Approximately 95% of my winter wardrobe is black, white, grey or denim, so it’s really going to work. To make things even more basic, I left off with the pockets. I know I won’t use sweater pockets, and frankly, my hips are already well-padded. Once I get through the initial instruction of “knit even for 12” I’ll let you know what I think. So far, so good!
Carrie Bostick Hoge does write a lovely pattern. I love that you can customize the length, fit, and styling of this cardigan. Since it’s a lovely wardrobe basic, I can easily see myself knitting a cropped version to wear over dresses in the spring.
To keep the sweater theme going, here are some amazing sweater patterns on my short list to knit once Uniform is done. (Like most knitters, I’m queuing these….I reserve the right to become distracted by another pair of socks, shawl or hat after I’ve finished Uniform.)
Drool-worthy color combinations abound for this pattern. Go browse the projects on Raverly, you won’t be sorry!
In case a full yoke of stranded colorwork is too much. This one has lace + a little stranded colorwork.
Look at that huge, snuggly cowl neck! I’m seriously tempted to grab an armful of Mr. Darcy yarn for this beauty.
